Exercise-87

Solution 1:
Length of the flower-bed = l = 5 m
Breadth of the flower-bed = b = 3 m
Area of the flower-bed
= l × b
= 5 × 3
= 15 sq. m
Thus, the area of the flower-bed is 15 sq. m.

Solution 2:
Length of the garden = l = 12 m
Breadth of the garden = b = 9 m
Area of the garden
= l × b
= 12 × 9
= 108 sq. m
Thus, the area of the garden is 108 sq. m.

Solution 3:
Length of the room = l = 5.2 m
Breadth of the room = b = 5 m
Area of the room = l × b
Area of the mat required to cover the entire floor = Area of the room
∴ Area of mat = l × b
= 5.2 × 5
= 26.0 sq. m
Thus, the area of the mat is 26 sq. m.

Solution 4:
Length of the plot = l = 35 m
Breadth of the plot = b = 20 m
Area of the plot = l × b
= 35 × 20
= 700 sq. m
Cost of 1 sq. m land = Rs. 600
∴ Cost of 700 sq. m land = 600 × 700 = Rs. 420000
Thus, the cost of the plot is Rs. 4,20,000.

Solution 5:
Length of the square field = x = 100 m
Area of the field = x2
= 1002
= 10000 sq. m
Cost of levelling 1 sq. m land = Rs. 5
∴ Cost of levelling 10,000 sq. m land = 5 × 10000
= Rs. 50,000
Thus, the cost of levelling the field will be Rs. 50,000.

Solution 6:
Length of the wall = l = 5 m
Height of the wall = b = 3 m
Area of the wall = l × b
= 5 × 3
= 15 sq. m
Cost of painting 1 sq. m = Rs. 15
∴ Cost of painting 15 sq. m = 15 × 15 = Rs. 225
Thus, the cost of painting the wall would be Rs. 225.

Solution 7:
Area - Maharashtra Board Class 6 Solutions for Mathematics-87-7
Solution 8:
Side of the square room = x = 6 m,
Area of the square = x2
= 62
= 6 × 6
= 36 sq. m
Cost of 1 sq. m carpet = Rs. 40
∴ Cost of 36 sq. m carpet = 40 × 36 = Rs. 1440
Thus, the cost of the carpet will be Rs. 1440.

Solution 9:
Length of the plywood (l) = 2.5 m
Breadth of the plywood (b) = 1 m
Area of the plywood = Area of the board
= l × b
= 2.5 × 1
= 2.5 sq. m
Cost of 1 sq. m board = Rs. 100
∴ Cost of 2.5 sq. m board = 100 × 2.5 = Rs. 250
Thus, the cost of the board will be Rs. 250.

Solution 10:
Length of the hall (l) = 25 m
Breadth of the hall (b) = 15 m
Area of the hall = l × b
= 25 × 15
= 375 sq. m
Length of the platform = l1 = 10 m
Breadth of the platform = b1 = 4 m
Area of the platform = l1 × b1
= 10 × 4
= 40 sq. m
Area of the hall excluding the platform
= Area of the hall – Area of the platform
= 375 – 40
= 335 sq. m
Thus, the area of the hall excluding the platform is 335 sq. m.

Solution 11:
Length of the first playground (l) = 120 m
Breadth of the first playground (b) = 52 m
Area of the first playground = l × b
= 120 × 52
= 6240 sq. m
Length of the second playground = L = 110 m
Breadth of the second playground = B = 62 m
Area of the second playground = L × B
= 110 × 62
= 6820 sq. m
Area of the first playground = 6240 sq. m
and area of the second playground = 6820 sq. m
Hence, the second playground is bigger.
