Class 11 Chemistry Chapter 5 States of Matter – Gases and Liquids
In this chapter, a qualitative understanding of various properties of fluids is provided. The students learn about ideal gas behaviour and the various laws governing the same. They also briefly learn about deviation from ideal behaviour, liquefication of gases and critical point. They are introduced to the concepts of viscosity and surface tension.
Class 11 Chemistry Chapter 6 Thermodynamics
The treatment of thermodynamics in chemistry is quite different from that in physics. Here, the focus is on thermochemistry. The students learn about the first law and proceed to learn about Hess’s law. They apply this law for different cases, using bond dissociation enthalpy, solvation enthalpy, etc. They are also introduced to the concepts of entropy and Gibb’s free energy. Towards the end, they are given a brief introduction to the third law of thermodynamics.
