NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 2 Polynomials Ex 2.1

Ex 2.1 Class 10 Maths Question 1.
The graphs of y = p(x) are given below for some polynomials p(x). Find the number of zeroes of p(x) in each case.
NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 2 Polynomials e1 1
NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 2 Polynomials e1 2
NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 2 Polynomials e1 3
Solution:

(i) Graph y = p(x) does not intersect the x-axis.
Hence, p(x) has no zero of p(x).

(ii) Graph y = p(x) intersects the x-axis at only one point.
Hence, there is only one real zero of p(x).

(iii) Graph y = p(x) intersects the x-axis at three points.
Hence, there are three real zeroes of p(x).

(iv) Graph y = p(x) intersects the x-axis at two points.
Hence, there are two real zeroes of p(x).

(v) Graph y = p(x) intersects the x-axis at four points.
Hence, there are four real zeroes of p(x).

(vi) Graph y = p(x) intersects the x-axis at three points.
Hence, there are three real zeroes of p(x).
